Civics Class Meets Lt. Governor

Shooks Farms hosts class trip to meet candidates including Lt. Governor Calley

Today, Central Lake High School Government students were able to ask questions and get answers about our state's efforts to combat the cost of higher education, and to learn more about the economic outlook for jobs for young people here in the local economy.CLPS Students with Lt. Governor Calley Thanks to the coordinated efforts of government teacher, Quinn Barry and Greg Shooks of Shooks Farms, 12th grade government students were able to meet with Michigan's Lieutenant Governor, Brian Calley. The Lt. Governor coordinated with Greg Shooks to stop by the farm on his tour of northern Michigan, and he was accompanied by local candidates for the State Senate, Wayne Schmidt, and State Representative, Tristan Cole. The message that the government students took away from their talk with Lt. Governor Brian Calley was that whether it is an election for student council, or a state or national office, the key to success is getting involved, asking questions, and engaging in the democratic process. Being an active participant and a life long learner are the keys to success.

Thank you to Greg Shooks and Shooks Farms, Lt. Governor Brian Calley, and candidates Wayne Schmidt and Tristan Cole for meeting with our students today.
